Abstract (EN)

In this study, water quality parameters were determined in raw water obtained from Keban Dam Lake, dated and jar test studies were performed. Coagulation process was used to control natural organic matter (NOM) which caused trihalomethane (THM) formation in raw water samples. The purpose of coagulation technique is determine the treatabilitiy of Keban Dam Water Lake, NOM removal, and THM control by reducing dissolved organic carbon (DOC) concentration in water, respectively. To determine coagulation conditions, a series of jar tests were used to identify the optimum coagulation dosage. Experiments were performed an one liter samples using a multistage stirrer six paddle jar test apparatus. The analytical grade coagulants such as alum (Al2(SO4)3.18H2O), ferric chloride (FeCl3.6H2O) were used. Determination of optimum coagulation conditions requires evaluation of both the optimum coagulant dosage and pH. Optimum pH studies were carried out at pH from 5 to 7 for Al+3 and Fe+3. As a result of the optimum pH, it was found to be the pH 6.5 and 5.5 Al+3 and Fe+3 respectively. As a result of jar tests, 27-39% removal efficiencies of DOC and 52-66% removal efficiencies of UV254 were obtained for alum and ferric chloride respectively. The results of jar test which was conducted for determining the optimum coagulation conditions indicated that maximum UV254 and DOC removals were achieved with 6 mg/L Fe+3 at pH 5.5.THM analysis were also carried out on raw water and treated water samples. As a result of the data obtained, on the coagulation with Al+3 made by 8 mg/L, while the total amount of trihalometan (TTHM) is changed between 10 ?g/L and 16 ?g/L,on the coagulation with Fe+3 made by 6 mg/L, it is between 16 µg/L and 42 µg/L. It was found to be 70 ?g/L in raw water. Keywords: Natural Organic Matter, Coagulation, Disinfection By Products, Trihalomethane, Drinking Water.
