Investigation of the cefovesin sodium in the treatment of gingivitis in cats

The aim of this study was to evaluate the efficacy of amoxicillin-clavulanic acid (AC) and cefovecin sodium (CS) the treatment of gingivitis in cats. In the study, 18 cats diagnosed with gingivitis were used. They were divided into 2 groups, AC group and CS group each contains 9 cats. If necessary, teeth of the cats were scaled before starting the treatment. Animals in the AK group received AC and animals in the CS group received cefovecin sodium. Plaque index, gingival index, papillary bleeding index, calculus indices of cats were measured at 1st, 3rd, 5th, 7th, 10th, 15th and recorded in the dental examination chart. A significant decrease was observed in the papillary bleeding index compared to AC in cats in the CS group. A statistically significant decrease was observed in the mean gingival index measurements in the CS group compared to the AC group. As a result, it was determined that CS was more effective than AC in the treatment of gingivitis.
