Abstract (EN)
The purpose of this study is to assess the results of fluency shaping therapy for adolescents and adults who have had chronic stuttering. By comparing the stuttering behaviours in pre-therapy, post-therapy and follow-up, it is aimed whether fluency shaping is an effective technique for adolescent and adult stutterers to control their stuttering behaviours.The research design of the present study is experimental model. Taking part in the study are fourteen adolescents and adults who stutter. The participants are between the ages of 14 and 29 years (mean: 20,5). The sample made an application to Anadolu University Education, Research, and Training Center for Speech and Language Disorders (DILKOM). They were applied fluency shaping therapy, focused on behavioural change, all along three months. With reference to the present study, the data include the measurements of the participants? stuttering events in oral reading and speaking actions. The participants? observable stuttering behaviours were measured and the percent of stuttered syllable formula was utilized in the pre-therapy, post-therapy and follow-up.The main findings are that participants? frequency of the stuttering behaviours and their severity of stammering moments were decreased and depicted statistically meaningful difference. Moderate stutterers? and severe stutterers? stuttered syllable frequencies also showed meaningful difference between pre-therapy and follow-up. It was concluded that there was no statistically meaningful difference between the adolescent and adult group and between the group who had a stutterer relative and the group who didn?t have a stutterer relative.Key Words: chronic stuttering, therapy efficiency, fluency shaping, stuttering frequency, stuttering severity.
