The effect of word wall method on 4th grade students' fluent reading and reading comprehension skills

Abstract (EN)

This research is a quasi-experimental research end the aim of the research is to determine the effects of Word Wall method on the forthgrade students fluent reading comprehension. Pre-test and past-test haven't been equalized as a control groupin the study but quasi-experimental model has been used. The study has been carried out together with 4th grade students at a primary school in Düzce in 2018-2019 school years. Easy sampling method is used to avoid less of time and cos while identifying the research group. The research has been carried out at the researcher's own school and the researcher is the Turkish teacher of the control and treatment groups. The treatment group is identified as (n=18) and the control groups is identified as (n=20). İn the research, the researcher has worked out on reading fluency, recognizing the word, prosodic reading, true word amount in 1 minute, word recognizing speed and pre-test and past-test results of reading comprehensions of the students. The students prosodic reading skills have been evaluated by using prosodic reading scale. Open-ended questions which aim simple and deep comprehension have been used at evaluating comprehension skill. Shapiro wilks analysis and Mann Whitney-U test, Wilcoxon Signed Ranks test and Signed Ranks test were used to measure the normality of the data. Analyzing the research, it has been understand that Word Wall Method is an effective method of the students reading speed, word recognizing, prosodic reading and reading comprehension skills.
