The Effects of computer software based on keller's arcs motivational model on the academic achievement and retention at teaching of mathematics

The purpose of this experimental research was to analyze the effects of computerbased instruction tutorial method that was designed according to Keller?s ARCSmotivational model and whole class teaching method on the academic achievement andretention in sixth grade mathematics lesson sets unit by comparing groups.The research was performed in 2006-2007 education year first semester atMünire Hanım Primary School where placing in Osmaniye city central district. One oftwo classrooms these were determined randomly from among the all of the sixth gradeclassrooms was determined as experimental group and the other one as control group.Experimental group consists of 22 students; control group consists of 19 students.While the experimental group was having the lessons in computer laboratory bycomputer based instruction tutorial that was prepared by the researcher, the controlgroup had the lessons in the classrooms by their teacher.The data that was gained at the end of the research was analyzed by usingvariance, independent samples t-test and covariance. At the end of the research, asignificant difference was determined between the post test scores of the groups ofexperimental and control in favor of experimental group and a significant differencewas determined about retention test scores in favor of control group.Keywords: Keller, ARCS Model, Sets, Motivational Learning, Computer BasedMathematics Instruction, Computer Based Instructional Tutorial.
