Kemal-name-i Dugumlu Baba Jild-i Sani (Text and analysis )

The topic of this study is the second volume of the "Kemal-name-i Dugumlu Baba" which is an eleven volume work by the 19th century poet, calligrapher and statesman, Ismail Sadik Kemal Pasha. The work of Ismail Sadik Kemal, who is a disciple of Hadji Hafiz Mustafa Efendi, better known as "Dugumlu Baba" is written on poetic menakibname style, on his biographical anecdotes, and his miracles and merits, therefore has been studied and examined in this research. The thesis consists of three parts. The first part is related to the life and works of Kemal Pasha who is the author of the work and it includes two sub-sections. The first sub-section focuses on Mustafa Efendi's family, education and working life. While the second sub-section focuses on Ismail Sadik Kemal Pasha's works in terms of their content and the copies of the work which survived in several libraries and book collections are given in table format. In the second part, under the main title of "Kemal-name-i Dugumlu Baba", the work is studied under two sub-headings, namely; "Properties of the Work" and "Content of the Work". The styles of language and literature, specific forms of the verses and rhythms of the work is studied under the sub-headings of "Properties of the Work" while Dugumlu Baba's life, his dervish lodge and the characters who were mentioned in the work is examined under the sub-headings of "Content of the Work". In the third part, the main text of the critique and the principles and methodology of the critical analysis is provided for the reader.
