Abstract (EN)

Anyone who carefully examines Kemaleddin ed-Demîrî's work named Hayâtü'l-Hayevân will clearly see that it is not just a zoology book. Because the work has many remarkable aspects and the subjects in the work are closely related to many different branches of science. Demirî is a very good jurist besides being knowledgeable in many branches of science. In addition to being a voluminous zoology book, Demirî's Hayâtü'l-Hayevan also has the feature of being a fiqh book containing extensive information in its field. In the work, besides the information about which animals' meat is halal to eat and which meat is not halal, many issues such as hunting of animals that are haram, selling animals, not breaking the ablution by eating animal meat, praying in the animal's corral, culling animals, zakat of animals are discussed in terms of jurisprudence. In the fiqh books, the subject of animals with or without halal meat is handled as general principles, and the subject is not detailed by giving examples of certain animals. In Demîrî's Kitâbü'l-hayevân, which is the subject of the study, many animals whose names are not included in the classical fiqh sources are discussed in detail. In this respect, it is thought that the study will fill an important gap in Islamic jurisprudence, especially in Social Sciences.
