Examination of the production and economic importance of zetrin spice specific to Kemali̇ye district with SWOT analysis

In this thesis, the content, production process and economic importance of the Zetrin spice specific to Kemaliye district were examined with SWOT analysis. Zetrin spice is a spice produced by adding some other plant parts to the mixture, mainly Origanum acutidens, thyme. It is stated that although its content changes according to the seasons, various parts of many plant species can be used in the production of the spice. The study tried to examine in detail the plants used in the production of zetrin spice, the production process, and also their economic contributions to Kemaliye district with a SWOT analysis. The strengths of continuity in spice production include the provision of its natural and healthy content for people's use, the continuation of rich biodiversity, the continuity of its continuity as a traditional and cultural foodstuff, and its economic contribution to the region. Weaknesses are the difficulty and labour intensity of the production process, limited production capacity, marketing and distribution problems, high production costs, seasonal production and stocking difficulties, lack of recognition and brand value, competition and market dynamics. Opportunities include increasing healthy eating trends, growth potential in local and national markets, the possibility of opening up to international markets, cooperation with tourism and gastronomy sectors, geographical indication registration and brand value, education and awareness-raising activities, R&D and product development activities, and sustainable agriculture and production methods. Threats are environmental changes and climate change, increase in competition, increase in production costs, sustainability of natural resources, marketing and distribution problems, legal regulations and standards, lack of consumer awareness and misinformation. These analyses provide strategic recommendations for the sustainable development of zetrin spice and increasing its economic contribution.
