Özet (EN)

The purpose of this study is to discuss the geological and geomorphological features of active faults controlling Kemalpaşa Basin. The study consists of basin faults expressions, kinematic and geomorphological analysis.The West Anatolian Extensional Province is a seismically active region extending in N-S direction. This province has been shaped with the movements caused by North Anatolian Fault, East Anatolian Fault and Aegean Trench since the Miocene. As a result of this tectonic activity, West Anatolia has been taken its form with basin-bounding normal faults. The Kemalpaşa Basin is one of the active structures in Western Anatolia.Kemalpaşa Basin, which is aproximately E-NE trending and asymetric graben is located in the southern part of Gediz Graben. Menderes Massif and Bornova Complex comprise the basement rocks of basin. Kızılca Formation, Sütçüler Formation and Alluvium unconformably overlie the basement rocks. The main faults of Kemalpaşa Basin are Spildağı Fault Zone in the north and Kemalpaşa Fault in the south. Both the north and south margin-bounding faults of Kemalpaşa Basin are oblique-slip normal faults. According to the results of kinematic analysis, Kemalpaşa Basin has been formed under N-S trending extensional regime.In order to find out the recent activities of faults bounding Kemalpaşa Basin, the geomorphological structures in the basin has been determined and the indexes related to this has been calculated. The geomorphological analysis made have shown that the region has been exposed to distinct tectonic effects.Keywords: Western Anatolia, Kemalpaşa Basin, active fault, kinematic analysis, geomorphology
