Examination of the differences between classical western music and Turkish music in terms of violin playing techniques

The violin instrument has a special place and importance in the performances of Classical Western Music and Turkish Music for centuries. This instrument has attracted great attention by both Classical Western Music and Turkish Music composers and interpreters, which has led to the composition of many works for the violin and this instrument to come to the fore. With the violin being a soloist instrument, in many countries in Europe, certain violin schools have been formed according to the musical characteristics of each nation. The popularity of the violin, which was first used by non-Muslim musicians in the Ottoman lands in the 18th century, increased, and it was frequently used by the palace musicians in the performances of Turkish Music, within the unique features of this music. With the period of the Republic, Turkish Music violin performance reached more advanced levels in terms of performance technique due to the contributions of important musician-composers and its interaction with the Classical Western Music violin technique. Due to the structural, technical and musical differences of Classical Western Music and Turkish Music works, violin holding and posture, tuning, tone and maqam concepts, right arm-hand and bow movements and left hand position transitions, vibrato, notation and transpose differences etc. There are many divergences. This research examined both music genres under these concepts and compared the violin playing techniques between the two styles.
