An examination on the historical development of violin teaching, applied teaching processes, schools and the current situation

The purpose of this study is to investigate the historical development of violin in terms of the content, practices and methods of violin teaching, also to examine the current status of the violin teachin process in conservatories based on the views of related instructors. Qualitative research methods were utilized in this study, which is a screening model. This study, where the violin teaching processes are historically investiaged based on the chosen nations and icons in terms of its methods, is oriented at fact finding with its contents of lecture approches of violin teacing process, lecture contents, evaluation process, utilization of violin icons, competence of institutions in violin teaching and physical conditions. In the research, document analysis was used for data collection purposes, and information was obtained through interviews from 29 instructors who gave personal violin training in the conservatories of 12 different universities. Descriptive analysis was applied for the data obtained through closed-ended questions, and content analysis methods were used for the opinions of the instructors about open-ended questions. The scope of this study includes all classical western music conservatories providing violin training in Turkey, the sampling consists of conservatories affiliated with 12 different universities, where violin instructors work at, who accepted participation in the study. In the research, the development of violin teaching depending on the icons in the historical process was examined, and information about the educators, composers and violin artists who contributed to the emergence and development of these icons were presented in tables. Opinions of the instructors were analyzed in a qualitative dimension, are categorized into themes and sub-themes in certain codes and then put into tables, and examples of these opinions are included in the findings of the research. As a result, in view of the opinions of lectures participated in the study, information related to lecture practices in the violin teaching process in conservatories in Turkey, lecture content, evaluation process, stage performance experiences of students, utilization of icons by teaching staff, factors affecting the violin training in conservatories and physical conditions of these institutions are noted in detail in the findings and results section of the research.
