The performace of kemençe in folk dance

This study comprehensively examines the historical background, structural features, role in folk dances, and social impact of the kemençe, an instrument that holds significant cultural importance in the Black Sea region. Originating from Central Asia, the kemençe was brought to Anatolia by Turkic tribes and gradually integrated into the musical fabric of the Black Sea region. The kemençe's structural elements include the head, body, neck, pegs, fingerboard, eyebrows, top plate, bridge, tailpiece, and sound post, all of which influence its sound quality and playing technique. The research highlights the kemençe's role in folk dances, particularly the horon. The kemençe sets the rhythm and flow of these dances, harmoniously blending with the dancers and enhancing the energy of the performances. The cultural and social significance of the kemençe is also explored, emphasizing its role as a powerful social connector that fosters community interaction. In conclusion, the study delves into the historical, structural, cultural, and social aspects of the kemençe, offering recommendations for future research. These include creating digital archives, establishing educational programs, and increasing cultural events to promote the kemençe. This study underscores the importance and role of the kemençe in the Black Sea region's cultural heritage.
