Perception of nurse presence and nursing care satisfaction in cancer patients receiving chemotherapy

Abstract (EN)

Aim: The research was conducted to determine the relationship between the perception of the presence of nurses and nursing care satisfaction in cancer patients receiving chemotherapy. Material and method: The research was conducted descriptively between 10 March and 10 September 2020. The population of the study consisted of approximately 550 adult patients treated at Malatya İnönü University Turgut Özal Medical Center. In the power analysis performed, the required sample size was determined as 130 people, who were treated at the same hospital and met the inclusion criteria, at a power level of 0.95 and a significance level of 0.05. The Descriptive Characteristics Form, the Nursing Presence Scale (NPS), and the Nursing Care Satisfaction Scale for Chemotherapy Patients (NCSSCP) were used to collect the data. For statistical evaluation, number, percentage, mean, independent groups t test, regression analysis, Anova and correlation analysis were used. Results: Most of the subjects included in the study were between 56-70 years old, male, married, high school graduate, income equal to expenditure, diagnosed between 1-5 months, no metastasis, 12-17 chemotherapy courses, 0-1 years of treatment, It was determined that there were patients who were diagnosed with gastrointestinal system cancer and stayed in the hospital for 1-5 days. It was found that the individuals' mean NPS score was 99.72 ± 17.81, and the mean NCSSCP score was 109.19 ± 18.78. A positive and significant correlation was found between the total mean scores of NPS and NCSSCP (p<0.05). Conclusion: It was determined that there is a positive relationship between the level of perception of the nurse's presence and the satisfaction level of nursing care of cancer patients receiving chemotherapy, and as the level of perception of the presence of the nurse increases, the level of satisfaction with nursing care also increases.
