Abstract (EN)
Most of the world is made up of buildings. The energy consumption resulting from the buildings includes 40% of the total energy need in the world. When all units related to the building are taken into account, this rate rises to 70%. As a result of such high energy consumption rates, health and environmental problems have increased and as a result, it has become necessary to search for solutions. As a result of research, sustainable development has emerged as a solution. Alternative building materials for buildings have been researched and it has been determined that natural building materials are important for sustainability. In terms of sustainability and energy efficiency, the importance of thermal insulation materials from building materials is quite high. In this study, the properties and usability of the heat insulation material produced from hemp, which can be used as a thermal insulation material, as well as the concept of sustainability were examined. In the study, by giving brief information about thermal insulation materials, the usability of organic insulation materials, especially hemp plant wastes, as insulation material was investigated. In addition, attention was drawn to the concept of sustainability and explanations about sustainability were included. The studies on the subject were also examined and the usability of hemp as a thermal insulation material was explained. As a result of the examinations, it has been revealed that hemp, one of the natural insulation materials, gives results close to the mechanical and physical properties required for use as a thermal insulation material and that it needs to be developed in order to be used as a thermal insulation material.
