Abstract (EN)

Cities those develop with humanbeings in historical process have different meanings for people who lives in the city. The experiences in the city and changes in the time of the experience for each person makes the communication between person and city unique. This special bond leads people to feel belonging to the city. Urban spaces, which support to remembrance of people stored in individual memory, are urban memory items that represent the link between past and present for individuals. The conservation of places those are identified with memories is a part of sociological perpective of urban planning process. The complete change of the physical environment not only damages the bond which is established between the city and the person, but also eliminates the sense of belonging and prevents people from making a connection between past and present. In this study, Konya which has plenty of clues for its rich history and the civilizations it has been hosting, was examined. The importance of the loss or permanence of urban spaces as a result of the development / change of the cities for the city memory was analyzed. In order to determine the spatial traces in the city memory, people from various age groups living in Konya were interviewed. As a result of the in deep interviews conducted within the scope of oral history method, it has been determined whether the spaces / buildings identified are standing today and the changes of these spaces / buildings in the historical process have been examined. It is seen during the study that the spaces identified with the memories of the citizens increased the sense of belonging to the city, the spatial usage of the city changed according to age groups, and the experiences of the male and female participants were different. It was concluded that young participants behaved more comfortably while they experiencing the city and female participants over 45 years of age are more free comparing to their youth. shopping malls are not accepted by people over 45 years of age.
