Historical adventure, explications and possibilities of the concept of urban right

In the political atmosphere of Paris, which was shaken with all student movements at the end of the 1960s, the concept of "the right to the city" developed by Henri Lefebvre treats the vital and urban rights of individuals living in the city as a set of rights that encompass all aspects of daily life. After Lefebvre's approach to the city from a Marxist perspective, creating a forward-looking city imagination and bringing the awareness and struggle to the foreground that will make it possible, the discussion of the right to the city maintains its importance and up-to-date in today's urban studies literature. This thesis aims to examine the history, emergence, theoretical richness of the concept of the right to the city in depth and its potentials for today; first, it will discuss the positioning process of the city as a scientific object since Weber, and then, by explaining the political atmosphere of France in the 1960s, it will open the concept of "right to the city" to discussion with all the historical and social conditions that mediated its emergence.
