United nations based development model proposal for the sustainability of the cities

Aldo Leopold's "A Sand County" almanac, prepared in 1949, is the first example that examines the interaction between mankind and the environment through the context of warnings about the human impact on nature. Published in 1968, 'The Limits of Growth' discusses how much development effects the surroundings as it develops and aims to warn about the upcoming environmental dangers. The advance of technology that progresses to achieve ease of access to the masses, whilst paving the way for an advance civilization of humankind, is also starting to create a global awareness to the environmental distruction that it causes. The first global conference with high attendance where the science of ecology was at the forefront was the The United Nations Conference on Human Environment, which was held in Stockholm in 1972. The ideas exchanged at this organization was carried on by different institutions and the organizations they arranged. The concept 'Sustainable Development' that was first put forward in the Brundtland Report in 1987 and it stated that the only way to sustain the mere existence of human life is by leaving a healthy environment to the future generations. Countless organizations are held every year in order to understand sustainable development and tackle the environmental problems, but the with the highest attendance and a global perspective, The United Nations World and Environment Summits have managed to create a superior mind. The summits held in 1972, 1992, 2002 and 2012 have been the subject to the universe of research and they have determined the environmental agend for both governmental and non-governmental organizations and institutions inviting them to act on a global mindset. This thesis study will be in its 50th year by 2022 and the policies put forward about sustainable development with international participation on a global scale and their applications are evaluated at these World Summits. Since 1972, going in to the sub-text to show what is really imprtant and with the help of numerical data analysis research, these summits present the results as a model for the sustainability of urban areas. Also the research has included the four main conferences based on the parameters such as the orginazatory institution being recognised by the official authorities, high attendance and that the topic is reevaluated every ten years whilst organizations held by similar institutes that are more local or covering only a contenant have been discluded because they would be the sub set of this study. The research method is to figure out how frequent and which political discourse is created by contextual analysis of a selected group. Undertaking the extensive environmental and development conferences, the resulting discourse has been sorted numerically by code, category amd theme. In this study, enquiry is made into what kind of sustainable development model is proposed in the sub-text The United Nations Environmental Programme on a global scale. The cumulative knowledge that has built up over fourty years has created the common ground that has made up the development model. Comparison is made with the current models that todays cities have with their local governmental, provision to this development model, under the framework of sustainability. The proposed development model as a result of this research, focusing on the process and historical precedence, is more inclusive than the models it is compared to. It is evident that the environmental and social side of this model has created more discourse than the economical side and that the actors implementing the model are an essential part of the model. The model could be a guide and a starting point to the local authority systems that are inclined to achieve sustainable cities.
