Landscape planning and design approaches on urban river side greenways: Çankırı Tatlıçay case

River bank have been the first areas preferred for settlement purposes throughout history with their characteristics such as being close to water and having fertile soil. Various studies are carried out with the aim of minimizing the increasing degradation of the remaining rivers in urban areas and rehabilitation of the rivers. One of these works is the greenways. In this study, the emergence and development of greenways, the concept of greenways, oversees examples of greenway studies have been examined, the importance of the use of river banks as greenways in urban areas has been revealed. In this context, the natural and cultural landscape characteristics of Çankırı Tatlıçay were analyzed and as a result of the analyzes, a greenway route was planned. As a result of analysis and observations on and around the planned greenway route, design focal points were determined in order to create a greenway system by considering flood risk and river bank regulations. Based on these results, a design proposal was developed according to the planning result.
