Abstract (EN)
In the last quarter of the 20th century, the globalization movement that affected the world has brought about major changes in almost every aspect of social life. One of the areas where this change is experienced is the cities shaped by traditional tissue. These cities began to lose their original characters, especially since the 1990s. One of the most important human activities throughout history, the act of shopping was carried out through exchange when money had not yet been invented. With the invention of money, commercial activities advanced further and spatial forms of trade were formed. In addition, the uniformization experienced by globalization was reflected in these places and similar shopping places were built in many parts of the world. As a result, the elements that make up the identity of the cities remained in the background, which damaged the memory of cities and societies. Tarsus; has become an important trade center over time thanks to its location and geographical features. Shopping venues have come to the fore as areas where the urban socializes. However, since the 19th century, tarsus's importance has decreased due to the fact that Mersin is a 'port city', and today, with the opening of new places, the city center has shifted to other regions. The aim of this study is to evaluate tarsus historical trade center in the context of urban memory, to analyze the current state of the area to contribute to this assessment, to reveal its physical structure, to determine memory locations and to develop recommendations for the transfer of memory to the future by preserving it. In this context; survey studies were carried out to evaluate urban and social memory, identification cards of the area's cue elements and focal points were created, commercial memory locations were identified, physical analyses of the workplace were made and recommendations were developed by preparing inventory vouchers.
