Abstract (EN)

The foundation of this thesis is based on the three-dimensional fractal analysis of architectural structure and texture. Examining the architectural structure and texture in the third dimension with a holistic approach will provide a better understanding. Since the architectural character, which has developed under the influence of many different cultures, is important in terms of urban integrity and sustainability, understanding the mathematical dimension underlying this character is of great importance for new designs and interventions to be made in an existing texture. Therefore, within the scope of the study, a model has been developed that transforms the architectural character into mathematical data. The fractal analysis method, which is a quantitative approach, is based on the development of the model. The three-dimensional fractal analysis model proposed within the scope of the study was applied on the streets and single houses determined in the Arabahmet neighborhood that best reflects the traditional texture of Nicosia Suriçi. In the analyzes made, the fractal dimension values of the streets formed by the housing texture are above 2.52 in general. This shows that the character and complexity of the streets are high. In addition, the fractal dimension values of these streets are close to each other. This supports the spatial and mass coherence of different streets in the same neighborhood. The harmony detected in the street pattern is also similar in the analysis of the single dwelling. However, when the houses are handled with the courtyard walls, it is seen that the fractal dimension decreases. This model, which was developed within the scope of the thesis, shows that it is possible to carry out two-dimensional fractal analysis studies in three dimensions in a way that allows us to obtain more information about architectural structure or texture.
