Useing gis techniques to determine the urban transformation area: Sample of Bozuyuk city center

In a decision process for urban transformation as a planning tool to increase urban standards, it is critically important to determine the criteria efficiently and objectively such as; what criterias to be considered or excluded and the level of effect of the specified criteria on the final decision. The combination of multi-criteria decision support analysis and the visualization and analysis functions of Geographic Information System (GIS) speed up the process to determine the urban transformation areas and to improve the decision-making actions by enabling rational urban transformation applications. In this study, the urban transformation suitability map of 2,500 hectares urban area in Bozüyük, Bilecik was obtained using the spatial analysis methods and Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) model by integrating GIS and AHP. The aim of the study rather than developing a model for urban transformation, to demonstrate the applicability of GIS in urban planning process and implement it on a sample.
