Abstract (EN)

In Turkey, especially after the 1999 earthquake in Kocaeli, the renovation of unstable buildings began to occupy the agenda more and more. Strengthening or rebuilding efforts have accelerated in all other public buildings, especially schools and hospitals. Finally, the Urban Renewal Law, dated 16.05.2012 and numbered 6306, has been passed, and there has been more opportunity for the construction of earthquakeresistant buildings in compliance with the regulation instead of all unstable public and private buildings. The aim of the thesis is to examine whether the three reinforced concrete buildings to be demolished and re‐constructed in this law are stable and to make a final decision on the destruction of these buildings. Material and project data of buildings were collected and 3D models of the buildings were defined in SAP2000 program and earthquake performances of these buildings were determined by nonlinear time history analysis which is one of the nonlinear analysis methods given in 2007 Turkish Earthquake Code (TEC‐2007). During the analysis, the plastic deformations that occurred in the structures and the shear force capacities of the reinforced concrete members were determined and the damage levels of the structural system components were evaluated according to TEC‐2007. According to the damage levels obtained in the structural elements, the performance levels of the buildings were determined and therefore, it was decided whether or not these reinforced concrete buildings are earthquake resistant.
