Examination on using of urban public open spaces by disabled people in case of Ankara, Çankaya

The necessity of the common use areas, which are a necessity of urbanization, should be equally accessible to all individuals in the society and the inadequacy of the applications transferred or attempted to be transferred to the space becomes more prominent in areas where there is intensive use in the city. In this context, the study identified and evaluated the areas where important spaces and heavily used public spaces are located in order to emphasize more clearly the priority of the arrangements for the disabled. Visual determinations made in three different neighborhoods and routes selected in Çankaya district of Ankara province, face-to-face interviews, the status of the designated areas for the use of disabled people and the criteria specified in the light of the criteria were presented in order of.suitability. Beginning to research from urban scale, it is inevitable of the physical environment have negative repercussions of the lack of actuality research on disabled people throughout Turkey. In other words, the fact that the indicators that can vary continuously such as population, disability types, causes and need areas are not current and clear can be defined as constraint or bottleneck in order to understand the general framework for disability and to take necessary measures. In this context, during the transfer of the accepted rules to the physical environment, the necessity of periodic and comprehensive researches for disabled people should be done periodically and shared under varying conditions (deaths, accidents etc.). As the third part of a comprehensive assessment study, to reveal the true dimensions for the disabled population by having an important place in Turkey and the world, with given direction to be implemented physical environment regulations, the orientation will be provided opportunities to increase their common accessible design decisions.
