Climate sensitive urban design of urban public spaces: Comparision of case studies from Turkey

In this study, outcomes of the relationship between urbanization and climate are presented through literature review. Also it is presented that how these outcomes lead by design to ensure thermal comfort of urban dwellers?. After that design principles to be followed in different climates to ensure the effective usage of public spaces sorted. With these principles, tables including performance standarts have been created for measuring climate sensitivities of case studies. Twenty-four performance standarts under heat and radiation control, wind flow control and humidity control headings used for the assessment of climate sensitivities of İzmir-1 Street, Bahariye Street and Konak Square cases which phisicial properties have been identified with photographs and maps before. As a result of assessment from twenty-four performance standards, İzmir-1 Street case achieved twelve standarts in cold period and seven in hot period, Bahariye Street achieved thirteen standarts in cold period and sixteen in hot period and Konak Square achieved eight standarts in cold period and fourteen in hot period.
