Abstract (EN)

Bitlis province, which has been chosen for the subject of the thesis, has a different topographical location. The topography embodies images of the traditional urban houses located on the slopes,having vistas of the monumental buildings as well as vistas of traditional architectural richness from different angles. However, development of the users living at this urban texture is inevitably low. The user is one of the most important factors in traditional texture. Therefore, the conservation studies at the area should both in physical and social contents, i.e. "the existence of the architectural-social structure evaluation is important/ essential at the conservation studies" this states the basic hypothesis of the thesis. The interrelation between them was examined at the theoretical framework. The studies on traditional texture of Bitlis province center were conducted on in-situ studies, examination-observation, and interview-documentation.The thesis consists of seven chapters. The definition of problem was introduced in the first chapter as well as aim, scope and the method. The theoretical framework of thesis has been carried out in the second chapter. A general description of the in situ, Bitlis province, and previous studies on physical, historical and settlement of the Bitlis was summarized and given in the third chapter. Chapter four contains the results of observation and interviews of the in-situ studies. The results were evaluated by SPSS programme and represented in tables in the chapter. The detailed architectural features of the traditional houses, as considering a data base for a conservation study were presented in chapter five. Chapter six presents current evaluations of changes in social and physical features of the houses. At chapter seven, a general discussion given on evaluation of spatial-social relationship of the study area/the output of the hypothesis. At chapter eight, traditional houses in Bitlis province was conducted and recommendations for conservation of the area in the future were presented.
