Beyazıt Square example in the aspect of urban design necessities

The last years speed of urban design plannings have increased in Turkey. One of reasons is that Turkey has noticed its deficiencies about this topic and wanted to compensate. Beyazıt Square is also example for this and it is a field that created lots of designs on it. In this way, firstly, urban design phenomenon was described theoretically to form an outline for necessary measurements of squares. In this chapter, a study was done to understand urban design with a descriptive approach. After the description of urban design, squares and classification of squares were touched upon. In the fourth chapter, examples from europe squares which comply with these classifications were given. In the fifth chapter, beyazit square was explained in its historical development process. Urban transformation was touched upon which occured during this process. The current condition of beyazit square was conveyed with the help of a public survey. In the last chapter, the issue and comments on beyazit square were conveyed. Applications , in case of urban transformation and new design of the square, were explained.In conclusion this thesis, urban design, has been studied by comparing between Beyazit Square example and urban design examples that produced in Europe.Keywords: Urban design, urban planning, urban environment, urban place, city square, Beyazıt Square.
