Evaluation of the combating against chestnut blight in terms of silviculture: The sample of Kütahya Si̇mav

In this study, silvicultural aspects of chestnut forests having a wide distribution area in Turkey and exposed to chestnut blight was evaluated. Kütahya Simav chestnut forests were chosen as research area in this study. The damages given to forests in the result of the combating against chestnut blight, Cryphonectria parasitica, and harvest of chestnut fruit were investigated in terms of silvicultural interventions. Three different sample plots were chosen from the research area. In each sample plot, the diameters, diseases and grafting status (exist or not) of the trees were determined. Stand constitutions of these forests were also investigated. This study was in the form of inventory and application. And with this study, it was made recommendations in order to the sustainability of chestnut forests with silvicultural interventions. In the result of this study, effectiveness in the combating against chestnut blight of silvicultural interventions was investigated. In the result of unconscious interventions made by local people, deformation of stand constitutions of chestnut forests and factors causing increase of disease were investigated. In addition, it was put forward some commentaries about both the combating against diseases and the sustainability of forest with silvicultural interventions being appropriate to the nature.
