Abstract (EN)

Identity is an ontological concept that is examined in the diary of many disciplines with its multidimensional and complex structure. Along with the history of thought, the desire to access the meaning of existence, defined by this concept, which has been studied in different perspectives of fields such as psychology, sociology and philosophy, has revealed the phenomenon of 'self'. While psychology explains identity with the condition that a person has continuous and consistent mental connections, sociology expresses it in a holistic scheme consisting of values, beliefs, thoughts and experiences that make an individual a unique 'person'. Philosophy, on the other hand, has described this state of self with consciousness. Therefore, 'self-consciousness' is the recognition and meaning of the existence of the 'I', the subject, through the 'other'. In this context, the self-other relationship, which is maintained in a healthy way only through the dialectical method, loses its inherent structure in a monologue attitude and turns into 'othering'. The literary and visual findings obtained during the creation of this thesis were obtained from the sources accessed by the literature review method. The aim of this study is to investigate the problematic of identity on the psycho-social and art historical basis and to examine the philosophical extensions of the other. In addition, the process of transforming the concepts of identity, self and other into artistic products, which are a new form, by synthesizing them with the artist's sensory perception, will be determined. The other problem has been studied with the same importance throughout the course of art history, which is about life, and since it will continue to remain on the agenda for every period, it is important to consider and express the subject in the context of art.
