Abstract (EN)
Kinetic facades can optimize user comfort levels in real time and deliver daylighting and energy efficient performance. In this way contribute to the energy and economic efficiency of the building throughout its life cycle by meeting sustainabilitybased performance requirements thanks to their adaptability features. This facade system is the focus of the research topic of this thesis as a developing potential that can play a key role in achieving zero energy and zero carbon building designs. This thesis aims to evaluate the design approach and strategies of kinetic facade systems based on sustainable criteria, reach general conclusions and develop suggestions based on the findings obtained as a result of the evaluation. In this context in the first part of the thesis, a qualitative research based on comprehensive literature review was used and the data obtained were examined under different titles to prepare the ground for the purpose of the thesis. The titles include topics such as technologies, movement mechanisms, design approaches and design strategies of kinetic façade systems, and are compiled in connection with kinetic architecture, sustainable architecture, adaptable façade and sustainable façade issues. Then, the main problem of the thesis: "How can the design strategies and approaches included in kinetic facade systems contribute to building sustainability and what are the issues that need to be developed in these systems ?" was sought and an evaluation model was proposed and sample kinetic facade applications were analyzed and evaluated comparatively within the framework of the proposed model. Inferences and suggestions were made regarding the problem of the thesis based on the findings obtained as a result of the evaluation.
