The relationship between kisspeptin and endometrial polyp

Abstract (EN)

Introduction: Endometrial polyps are one of the most common pathologies that cause abnormal uterine bleeding in gynecological patients. Kisspeptins are a family of hypothalamic neuropeptides required for the regulation of reproductive physiology. In this study our goal is to reveal the role of kisspeptin in the pathogenesis of endometrial polyps. Methods: Our research was designed as a prospective study, including 50 women who applied to Afyonkarahisar Health Sciences University Medical Faculty Hospital, Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology with complaints of abnormal uterine bleeding, infertility, subfertility, dysmenorrhea or for routine check-up. The patients were divided into two groups according to the endometrial biopsy results. One, histopathologically diagnosed patients with endometrial polips and the other group with normal histopathological results. Peripheral venous blood samples and endometrial tissues of the patients were evaluated for kisspeptin (KISS1) gene expression; endometrial tissues were evaluated for immunohistochemical staining of kisspeptin. Results: There was no significant difference in terms of KISS 1 gene expression in the blood and endometrial tissues of endometrial polyp and control groups (p=0,399 and p=0,387). Compared to the patients with endometrial polyp, the tissue kisspeptin staining of the control group was higher and this difference was statistically significant (p<0,001). Conclusion: There was no significant correlation found between endometrial polyp and kisspeptin gene expression in blood and tissue. However, the decrease in kisspeptin protein level in endometrial tissue may be suitable for use as a marker in the diagnosis of polyps. While doing research on kisspeptin, kisspeptin gene expression should be evaluated together with the kisspeptin protein level and receptor. Keywords: Endometrial Polyp, Hysteroscopy, Kisspeptin.
