SMEs financing with crowdfunding

In our country, the crowdfunding financing method resulted in bad examples such as the "çiftlikbank" example experienced during the period of lack of regulation, with investors making losses and being victims. Thereupon, a regulation was made by the Capital Markets Board; On 03.10.2019, the "Communiqué on Share Based Crowdfunding" was published in the Official Gazette and entered into force. With the Communiqué, it has now brought active obligations. A large part of the economic activities in our country are carried out by small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). Crowdfunding platforms, with the effect of globalization and digitalization, undertake the task of introducing a business idea or project from anywhere in the world, and enabling investors to meet with their supporters, without intermediaries, by crossing national borders, in order for entrepreneurs to realize their business ideas. While crowdfunding provides entrepreneurs with access to finance, it eliminates time and place constraints and facilitates investor search and persuasion processes. In this respect, it is expected that the crowdfunding method will be popular and used by SMEs. The aim of this thesis is to investigate the usability of crowdfunding financing method as a new generation financing method by SMEs, especially for micro-scale enterprises' access to finance. As a result of the study, it has been determined that SMEs in Turkey do not know the crowdfunding financing method very well, they are cautious as a new financing method and have not started to use it widely yet.
