Abstract (TR)

The purpose of this study is to investigate whether there is a meaningful relation between married couples’, who live in TRNC, marital conflict, conflict resolution styles and marital adjustment in order to understand if they differ according to their gender, monthly income, education level, age, type of marriage, duration of marriage, and having child. The sample of this study was selected randomly among the couples who live in TRNC. 172 married women and 178 married men (350 in total) voluntarily participated in this study. The data of the study were collected through “Marriage Life Scale” developed by Hatipoğlu (1993), “Conflict Resolution Styles Scale” by Özen (2006), “Married Life Satisfaction Scale” by Çelik (2014) and Demographic Information Form, designed by the researcher and confirmed by an expert. The results of the study were analysed through SPSS 20. Pearson Moments Multiplication and Analysis of Variance (ANNOVA) were applied to the data in the process of analysis. The results of the study indicated that there is a meaningful relation among the couples’ conflict, conflict resolution styles and their satisfaction level in their marriage. Although there is a difference between marital conflict and the couples’ monthly income, type of marriage and duration of marriage, any kind of difference did not occur according to gender, education level, age and having child variables. It is also observed conflict resolution styles differ according to gender, education level, age, and type and duration of marriage whereas any serious difference could not be found according to monthly income and having child. Finally, it is also found that monthly income, education level and type of marriage affect the difference in marital satisfaction whereas gender, age, duration of marriage and having child do not show any serious difference. Keywords: Family, marriage, marital conflict, conflict resolution styles, marital satisfaction
