The investigation of the classical and postmodern period composers' artworks

The aim of this study is to observe the developments of the term Post-modernism in fields of plastic arts, cinema and music . It also, aims to determine whether there is a relationship between the art formations in music of Post-modern era and the Classical period by being effected by plainnes and clarity movements. Thus, this is a qualitative research in which comperative music analysis method has been used. The study is composed of both Classical period composers and artworks such as Joseph Haydn "Piano Sonate No. 8 G-Major", Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart "Piano Sonata No:16 in C major, K. 545", Ludwing Van Beethoven "Piano Sonata No. 1 in F minor, Op. 2" and Post-modern period composers and artworks such as Michael Nyman "The Sacrifice", Philip Glass "Solo Piano, Metamorphosis One", Arvo Part "Fur Alina". In addition, the woks of the artists have been determined "randomly". As a course of the study's nature, not any measuring technics have been used: however, the analyzed artworks have been taken from the internet and Library of Inonu University and they have been analyzed by means of "Classical Forms of Analaysis Method". SPSS packed programme has been used in order to analyse the information obtained from those sources and percent values have been expressed with tables. At the end of the study, the similarities and differences between the Classical and Post-modern period artists' artworks have been exhibited. It has been noted that Haydn, Mozart and Beethoven, whose artworks have been evaluated in Classical Period, all used motives in their works with a historical squence but the one that used it most was Beethoven. It has been possible to determine the characteristics of the artworks of classical period by observing them. On the other hand, by searching artworks of the post-modern era, it has been revealed that artists of that period used maximum eight methods in their works. Although in nearly all of these works the same motives were used, there were still some in which the methods that were applied varied constatntly. In addition, in this study, a definition has been created for the post-modern understanding which didn't have an exact definition in fields of music and art so far. Furthermore, some sugestions have been made thanks to the results that were obtained at the end of the study. Key Words: Classical Period, Postmodern Period, Form analysis .
