Using Turkish folk song melodies in classical guitar education

Abstract (EN)

This analysis, which is prepared for 2006-2007 academic year master thesis, tries to search the use of the Turkish folk melodies in guitar education at universities' faculties of education, departments of fine arts education, branches of music teacher education. Datas were taken from the classical guitar lecturers working for the branch of music teaching at universities. In order to prepare the data, techniques of survey and source scanning were used. Results, reached by the method of survey, were analyzed by the basic statistical methods. In this research, firstly, the general principles and history of the classical guitar education were mentioned, characterictics of the Turkish folk music were explained, general principles of the bağlama as a folk music instrument were discussed. Secondly, the theory of adaptation of Turkish folk melodies into the classical guitar education was mentioned and polyphony of the Turkish folk music was put forth for consideration. Besides, twelve folk melodies composed of different rhythms and Turkish modes to be used for classical guitar education, were arranged and examples of the folk melodies were prepared for classical guitar.
