Cülûsiye in classical Turkish poetry

When the genre is examined in terms of literary science, it is the categories that are formed as a result of the division of literary texts into various groups based on their subjects. Classical Turkish poetry is a very rich literary period in terms of genre. Another genre that was introduced in this period is the cülûsiyes. The literal meaning of cülûs is to sit. In terms of history, it is a term used for the tradition of the sultan's accession to the throne in Turkish states. From this point of view, expressions such as cülûs ceremony, cülûs bahşiş (called from ottoman sultan during entering upon office) and cülûs progress are derived. In addition to these, the term cülûsiye has been created in the science of literature. Cülûsiye is a special word used in literary theory for the poems that the poets presented to the sultan for the purpose of congratulating the sultan when he ascended the throne. In these poems, the happiness felt due to the new sultan's accession to the throne is expressed, and the sultan is prayed for success in the state administration. While it is a common belief that it was offered only to sultans, actually it was also offered to statesmen, sect sheikhs and harem women in addition to sultans. Although the first examples were given in the 15th century, it was written extensively in the 18th and 19th centuries, when the sultan's changes were very frequent. It has been written in various verse dîvân poetry forms as a reflection of the tradition, since it is a classical Turkish poem. It also has a wide depth of meaning as in other types of dîvân poetry. In this study, the verse cülûsiye texts presented to the people in question were examined in terms of form and content, so it was aimed to create a compact reference source on this subject by trying to determine the characteristics and limits of the cülûsiye type.
