Household items in classical Turkish poetry

In classical Turkish poetry, there are many abstract and concrete elements used by poets as a means for their similes. Household items used in daily life, which are concrete items, have found their place in every genre of classical Turkish poetry. In classical Turkish poetry which continued to be written from the 13th century to the 19th century, divan poetries stand out with their richness of content. In this study, approximately forty divan poetries belonging to various poets from each century were reviewed. The household items found as a result of the review were classified under the headings of lighting, rugs and mats, cases, cleaning, kitchenware, and various household items and divided into sections within themselves. Examples of couplets including household items were given, and prose translations were made. The semantic relations of these couplets with household items were revealed. Furthermore, explanations were made about idioms, customs, traditions, scenes from daily life, and local elements identified in the couplets within the context of household items.
