Evaluation of patients diagnosed with Diabetes Mellitus in terms of clinical quality indicators

Clinical quality is a measurable component of clinical performance used to evaluate the quality of medical services. Improving the quality of clinical care depends on two key factors. The first is developing evidence-based medical practices that define clinical practice to provide better care, and the second is understanding how to implement evidence-based medicine in daily practice. To date, the Ministry of Health has identified 25 health cases at the national level as part of clinical quality efforts to enhance efficiency and achieve cost savings. Performance measurements and evaluations have been conducted for each case, and indicators have been developed to facilitate improvement. Efforts at the ministry level continue intensively to increase the number of clinical quality cases. The Ministry of Health's primary goal regarding clinical quality is to ensure national patient safety and satisfaction in monitored health cases, ultimately achieving optimal health outcomes. One of these cases is Diabetes Mellitus (DM). The aim of this study is to evaluate the 2022 indicator data related to the Diabetes Mellitus health case monitored in a district public hospital in accordance with the Ministry of Health's Clinical Quality Implementation Guidelines, identify areas open for improvement, and make recommendations. Since studies on Diabetes Mellitus as a clinical quality case are limited in Turkey, this thesis holds unique value. The study results indicate that while some targets were achieved within the Diabetes Mellitus clinical quality case under three standards with 18 indicators in 2022, there were deviations from the target values in certain indicators.
