Investigation of the antibiotic resistance and preventing of extended spectrum beta-lactamase of e. coli and klebsiella species isolated from clinic samples

Abstract (EN)

The aim of this study was to detect the presence of extended spectrum beta-lactamase (ESBL) in urine isolates of Escherichia coli and Klebsiella sp. and to determine in vitro antibiotic resistance of these strains. A total of 63 E. coli and 22 K. pneumoniae strains isolated from urine and identified by conventional methods were included in the study. ESBL activity was tested with double disk synergy testand nitrocefin sticks. 47,10 % and 62,35% of the isolates were found positive for ESBL. Antibiotic resistance of the isolates were determined by Kirby-Bauer disc diffusion method and broth microdilution method according to ?Clinical and Laboratory Standards Institute (CLSI)? standards. The resistance rates of E. coli and K. pneumoniae strains were as 9 % - 5% and 0% -5% for imipenem, 3 % and 9 % for ertapenem, 25 % and 22 % for piperacillin- tazobactam, 27 % - 9 % and 5 % - 0 % for amikacin, 2 % - 0 % and 0 % ? 0 % for meropenem, 14 % - 23 % and 13 % ? 5 %, for aztreonam,23 % - 22 % and 10 % -14 % for ceftazidime, 41 % - 41 % and 29 %- 5 % for gentamicin, 28 % - 18 % and 20 % - 14 % for ciprofloxacin In conclusion, It was suggested that ESBL determination should be added to routine antibiotic resistance testing in members of Enterobacteriaceae isolates.
