Abstract (EN)
Liquid crystals are an intermediate phase state. They have some similar proterties to both of solid crystals and liquids. Liquid crystals are widely used in many areas nowadays, especially in the screen manufacturing. Due to its clearer picture property and less energy consumption, nematic liquid crystals are being preferred in the electronic screen systems. The aim of this thesis is to develop molecular orientation in the G-H type systems by using chloro antraquinone based paints and carbon nanotubes, and to investigate their effect on the nematic-isotropic phase transition temperature of the pure liquid crystal. Firstly 4 different paints (1-chloro-, 2-chloro-, 1,5-dichloro- ve 1,8-dichloroanthraquinone) were added individually to two different nematic liquid crystals (E7 ve ZLI-1132). Then their orders parameters solubilities, textures, phase transition temperatures were determined. Next step was to repeat the experiments and find out all of parameters except solubility after adding single walled carbon nanotube. An important increase in values of order parameter was obtained by addition of nanotube. No significant change weren?t observed on the textures of the liquid crystals after adding dye and nanotube. Polarized microscope and DSC measurements revealed that the changein phase transition temperatures were in between the required limits on all of the samples.
