Thesis )A.Doğan SOYALGAZI UNIVERSITYINSTITUTE OF SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGYOctober 2006ABSTRACTThe most important characteristics of polymethine dyes involve their ability ofstrong absorption in the ultraviolet, visible and near infrared regions. Theseproperties also enable their use in many applications other than dyeing. Chloroheptamethine cyanine dye as a type of polymethine dye was obtained from thereaction of quaternary ammonium salt and bisaldehyde. The properties ofobtained dye such as fluorescence, excitation and absorption was found andthe applicability in dye laser also.
