Evaluation of the impact (effect) of planned nursing education on quality of life and anxiety in COPD patients

ABSTRACT Evaluation of the İmpact (effect) of Planned Nursing Education on Quality of Life and Anxiety in COPD Patients. Aslan DOĞAN, Hasan Kalyoncu University, Institude of Health Science, Nursing Department, Master wint Thesis, Gaziantep 2018 With the purpose to investigate the quality of life and the effect of planned nursing education program on anxiety in patients with COPD, the experimental and control group was planned and established. The study was carried out on 80 patients diagnosed with COPD in Pulmonology Clinic of Batman District State Hospital. 40 of 80 patients were experimental group and another 40 patients were control group. The data's of experimental and control group were collected by using Patient Infermation Form, Hospitla Anxienty and Depression Scale (HAD), COPD Assessment Test (CAT) and St George's Respiratory Questionnaire (SGRQ). The researcher evaluated the obtained data's by using computer based program SPSS 24.0 (The Statistical Package for the Social Sciences-PC Version 24.0). The experimental group was given nursing and repeating questionnaire after implementing anxiety and life quality questionnaire. Control group was not given education programme. The results of data's; after the education program the level of HADS-depression and HADSanxiety of experimental group increased and there was no statistical difference (p>0,05). In experimental group the average of COPD Assessment Test and St George's Respiratory Questionnaire decreased and there was a statistically difference compare with the situation before the educational program (p<0,05). After the checking, the average point of HADSanxiety of control group decreased (p<0,05) and the average points of HADS-depression increased (p>0,05). As a result of this study; İt was seen that the planned nursing education given to COPD patients improved their life quality. With the results of the study carried out; it is suggested to give planned nursing education program to COPD patients by nurses. Key Words: COPD, life quality, anxiety, depression, education.
