In this study, the passivation of cobalt with respect to the oxide films formed on the surface in different concentrations of potassium hydroxide solution with varying oxidation periods were enlightened using the cyclic voltametric method. The curves obtained from the first sweep was observed to be different from sequencial sweeps due to formation of steady-state oxide films formed on the electrode surface. In the first sweep the electrolytic dissolution of the metal occurs. In the following sweeps, different cobalt oxide and hydroxides are formed the dissolution and precipitation mechanism plays an important role on passivation of the cobalt metal.
