Abstract (EN)
During the ?Kocaeli Fountains? Masters thesis study, 23 fountain samples in Izmit city center were examined. This self-contained fountains 4 of them, 19 are adjacent one. Fountains, 14th then 19th century dated in a century, the process. There are 16 fountains of which there is no inscription and the construction date is not known or there exists the restoration inscriptions. Fountains have a facade forming of an arch surrounding the niche which have an inscription in the middle, a tap on the mirror stone, a basin which holds the water flowing from the tap and a resting stone on both sides of the basin. Mainly there is a water reservoir lying behind the facade and a cover system made of flat roof and vault or dome covering system intensive and is seen as completed. There is not intense embellishment on the facades of the fountains. On the fountains mainly the facade embellishments which are made out by the rhythmic and irregular layout of the materials were used. In addition to the plain fountains there also exists the 2 or 3 facaded, large reservoired and big dimensioned fountain examples. The most apturing element on nearly every fountain facade is the usage of round or pointed arches.
