Analysis poems of the 9th grade Turkish language and literature course book in the matters of core values

Establishing a healthy social order begins with raising moral and virtuous individuals. Depending on this situation, ‘Values Education’ is based on by The Ministry of National Education of the Republic of Turkey. This study aims to defines the core values in poems in high school Turkish language and literature course book. The data set of this study consists of high school Turkish language and literature course book which used in the 2024-2025 academic year. Data are obtained by document review method that’s also known as scanning method.A total of 95 poems of 60 poets obtained through the scanning method were analyzed one by one in terms of core values. “Justice”, “friendship”, “honesty”, “self-control”, “patience”, “respect”, “love”, “responsibility”, “patriotism”, and “helpfulness” are the core values which constitutes the value categories of the study. According to the evaluation results , the most frequently used core values referred in the poems were found as love (48), patriotism (20) and patience(14). Further, the study does not include the core values of honesty(0) and helpfulness(0).It shows that our course book is rich in core values , because almost most of the poems we examined have root values. Therefore, it has been found that poems are suitable for students in terms of conveying core values.
