ivTHE INVESTIGATED OF COLOPHONY ON CONCRETE CORROSIONWITH ELECTROCHEMICAL METHODS(M.Sc. Thesis)Selda EMRE ÜNCÜGAZ UNIVERSITYINSTITUTE OF SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGYOctober 2006ABSTRACTIn this study, the effects of colophony which is used in paint industry asingredient, on the corrosion of concrete and steel were investigated. Thecolophony may have binder and inhibition effect for corrosion in rigid concretestructure. It was thought that the physical performans of concrete may beaffected by using colophony as an additive. Also at this study, novelapproximations and interpretation of experimental data were suggested for theinvestigation of corrosion feature of steel in concrete.By the aim, corrosion properties of concrete prepared by adding 3 % NaCl andvarious amount colophony into the mixing water, and of steel electrode incolophony solutions which contains 0.1 M NaCl at pH=12 ve pH=6 media wereexamined electrochemically. Experimental results were utilized together withsurface morphology. Corrosion properties of concrete samples in the 3 % saltsolution were monitored throughout 71 days in the specified periods by usingOCP (open cycle potential), EIS (electrochemical impedance spectroscopy),cronoamperometry, cronoqulometry and cyclic voltametry techniques. It is observed that the colophony inhibited the corrosion of concrete by means ofbarrying water and various chemicals due to the tapping pores of concrete, andvbut also increase the solubility of surface oxide film to increase very muchcorrosion of steel in concrete.Science Code : 201.1.080Key Words : Corrosion, Concrete Corrosion, ColophonyPage Number : 96Adviser : Doç.
