Abstract (EN)

Colorectal cancers are one of the malignant diseases with increasing frequency due to dietary factors and enviromental exposure. This study aimed to evaluate the oxaliplatin containing chemotherapy regimens in stage II and III patients as adjuvant settings. In this study, 80 colorectal cancer patients followed at Gazi University Medical Oncology clinic between 1998 and 2009, to whom curative surgery performed and postoperative oxaliplatin based chemotherapy was adminestered, were evaluated retrospectively. Twelve patients had stage II, 68 patients had stage III diseases. Because of a shorter duration of median follow-up as 22 months (range 3-141 months), it could not attain median survival. The probabilities of surviving at 3 years were 82.9% and 5 years were 72.3% for all patients. There was no statistically significant difference between stage II and III patients in terms of DFS. Disease free survival was calculated as 27 months (range; 21.46-32.54) in stage II patients but median disease free survival was not achieve for stage III patients.Grade III peripheric sensoryneural neuropathy during treatment was reported in one patient, grade IV neutropenia in 7 patients and grade IV diare was reported in 2 patients.Oxaliplatin combination chemotherapy has an important role in the treatment of local advanced colorectal cancer as adjuvant setting. In respect to effect on survival and quality of life, treatment should be started immediately after surgery.
