The relationship between colposcopic abnormalities and HPV seroprevalence, oxidative stress and inflammation and its prognostic significance

This study emphasizes the importance of using HPV testing in cervical cancer screening and the significance of serological tests related to HPV. The study included 82 patients who tested positive for HPV 16-18, and it aimed to evaluate the correlation and prognostic importance between colposcopic abnormalities, HPV seroprevalence, oxidative stress, and inflammation. According to the results, the patient group exhibited a statistically significant increase in total antioxidant levels and total oxidant levels. HPV16-E7 and HPV16-L1 levels were also significantly elevated, while HPV18-L1 levels showed an increase. Significant correlations were found between HPV16 L1-E7, HPV18 L1-E7, TAS, TOS parameters, and cervical biopsy pathology results such as HGSIL, LGSIL, ASCH, ASCUS, chronic cervicitis, and normal findings. On the other hand, age, gravidity, and age at first intercourse showed a negative correlation. TNF-alpha levels exhibited a correlation with inflammatory changes and preinvasive cervical lesions in the histopathological evaluation of cervical tissue samples. This study aims to contribute to the identification of a test that correlates with colposcopic findings and has prognostic significance, thereby enhancing the diagnostic aspect of cervical cancer screening. It underscores the importance of HPV serological tests and their correlation with colposcopic findings.
