Özet (EN)

The notion space has been one of the significant problems of art over a long period of time. Space is regarded as not an area of a tinsel existence but the limitations created by the external world. This space problem, which is more frequently depicted in plastic arts, leads to a variety of discussions related to the problems such as the reflection of the external world, visualization of the dreams, the use of perspectives, compositional fiction formed by the rational and irrational transformations. After 1970s, there has been a transitive period in which different ways have been sought to represent the figure and space on the way to the modernization of the Turkish Painting Art. However, in 1980s, the development of the trend of New-Expressionist art parallel to the West is considerably based on the expressionist behavior of the New-Figuration trend. In this trend, the richness in the interpretation putting the figure in the centre comes to the fore. It has been observed until recently that Turkish Painting had a figurative way of expressing, but today modern, innovative and abstract tendencies are so common on one hand, while, on the other, there are attempts to interpret with a different understanding and comprehension based on pluralist and complicated ways of expression. With the economic prosperity and the social changes in the society in 1970s and 1980s, a painting language has developed that includes criticism and irony in figurative sense. These can be described as the individual attempts of the artists who try to express social criticism with absurd, humorous and fantastic images. In this period, different discourses and suggestions were introduced to the audience and accepted by this audience. The study carried out to represent figures and space including the modernization period of Turkish Painting especially after the 1980s has focused on the topics such as the perception of absurd space and fantastic figure. With the analysis of the artistic understanding of Gürkan Coşkun (Komet) and Mehmet Güleryüz and the figure and space stylizations that they use in the pictures exemplified in the study, the subject area was extended. In the attempt to identify the paintings of the both writers, the readings were done with reference to artistic imagery and unique dreams and recollections rather than clinical symptom dreams and recollections.
