Abstract (EN)
Objective: The aim of this study was to compare the effects of the DynaFlex CS5 system and conventional Class III elastics on dentofacial structures in patients with compensated skeletal Class III malocclusion. Materials and Methods: The study sample consisted of 40 individuals aged 15–19 years, in the post-peak period with completed growth and in permanent dentition. Participants were randomly assigned to two groups: 20 patients were treated with the CS5 system and 20 patients with Class III elastics. In both groups, fixed orthodontic treatment protocols were applied. Pre-treatment (T1) and post-treatment (T2) lateral cephalometric radiographs were analyzed using Dolphin Imaging Software, and statistical analyses were performed with SPSS. Results: In the CS5 group, significant forward displacement of the maxilla (increase in SNA and A-N⊥), proclination of the upper incisors, and forward positioning of the upper lip were observed. In the elastic group, sagittal correction was mainly achieved through clockwise mandibular rotation and retrusion of the lower incisors. Both groups achieved positive overjet and Class I molar relationships. Conclusions: The CS5 system provided more pronounced maxillary advancement and soft tissue improvement, whereas conventional elastics achieved sagittal correction primarily through mandibular rotation. Both approaches were effective in the treatment of compensated Class III malocclusion, although their biomechanical effects differed.
