Abstract (EN)

ABSTRACT PhD Thesis THE ANALYSIS OF STRESS IN COMPOSITE MATERIAL BEAMS WITH SHOULDER FILLETS FOR VARIOUS ORIENTATION ANGLES Mustafa GÜR Fırat University Graduate School of Natural and Applied Sciences Department of Mechanical Engineering 994, Page: 146 In this study, the maximum stress values and the stress concentration coefficients for a beam with shoulder fillet produced with composite materials exposed to simple bending have been obtained as the function of orientation angle and fillet radius., by using a finite elements method. This problem is solved by using an isoparametric, two dimensional finite element with four nodes. The computations have been carried out for three different composite materials, (namely Glass-Epoxy, Boron- Epoxy and Graphite-Epoxy) under the unidirectional ly reinforce and cross reinforce conditions. The maximum stress values and stress concentration coefficients have been computed for each composite material for different fillet radiuses and in various orientation angles. The results have been presented in diagrams and the relevant comparisons have been made. As a result, it has been seen that in case of increasing fillet radius., the maximum stress values increases and the stress concentration coefficients decreases. KEY WORDS : Stress concentration coefficient, finite element method, isoparametric finite elements, composite materials.
